Uzbek call transcription: how it works

Uzbek call transcription: how speech-to-text copes with three spellings and switching to Russian mid-sentence, and what a business gets at the output

ASR · UZBEK STT

Uzbek call transcription turns a conversation into text, and the hard part is not the language itself but its three spellings and the switch to Russian mid-sentence. Global engines understand literary Uzbek but lose accuracy on a phone line, on dialects and on Russian insertions. That changed over the last 12–18 months: a wave of local Uzbek STT solutions appeared, along with open Uzbek speech corpora of hundreds of hours of labelled speech. In practice the chain looks like this: a recording from the phone system or the Android recorder goes to the recognition engine, which normalises the spelling, separates the agent's and the customer's turns and switches between Uzbek and Russian within a sentence. The output is text with timestamps, on which keyword search, tone scoring and script control run. For a business this means Uzbek calls can now be turned into text and analysed just like Russian ones. Below: how it works, why Uzbek is harder than Russian and what to choose.

What is call transcription and how does it work in Uzbek?

Call transcription is the automatic conversion of a call recording into text using speech recognition technology (STT, speech-to-text). In Uzbek the system also has to identify the spelling, separate the speakers' turns (diarization) and handle the transitions between Uzbek and Russian. On a clean recording, the accuracy of the best local Uzbek engines is now good enough for keyword search, tone scoring and script control.

From there the text becomes raw material for analysis: keyword search, tone scoring, script control. Without an accurate transcript, any speech analytics in Uzbek is pointless, because the model is analysing garbage. That is why STT quality comes first here.

Uzbek call transcription is the automatic conversion of a recording into text through STT, with spelling detection and speaker separation. The arrival of local Uzbek engines makes analytics of Uzbek speech practical for the first time.

Why is Uzbek so hard for speech recognition?

Uzbek is harder than Russian for three reasons at once: the writing system, language mixing and dialects. Open Uzbek speech corpora gathered hundreds of hours of labelled speech precisely because ready-made data was in desperately short supply. Global engines were trained mostly on literary speech, so a phone call with a dialect and Russian insertions is the hardest case for them.

Let us take the three barriers one by one.

Three spellings of one language

Uzbek is written in both Latin and Cyrillic, and within Latin the apostrophe varies (`oʻ`, `o'`, `oʼ`, `o`). One agent will write the same word as «qoʻngʻiroq», another as «qo'ng'iroq», a third as «qongiroq», and a fourth in Cyrillic: «қўнғироқ». The model has to normalise all of this into a single text, otherwise search and analytics fall apart.

Uzbek↔Russian code-switching

In a real call the manager starts in Uzbek, switches to Russian for «оплата» (payment), «доставка» (delivery), «договор» (contract) and switches back. That is code-switching within a single sentence. The system has to switch as the conversation goes, not pick a language once at the start.

Dialects and colloquial speech

The Tashkent, Fergana and Khorezm dialects differ in pronunciation and vocabulary. On top of that, the phone line cuts frequencies and adds noise. Without training on local speech, accuracy drops.

Has Uzbek call transcription matured?

Yes. Over 12–18 months a whole wave of Uzbek-language STT solutions has appeared in Uzbekistan, and that is the best sign of a maturing market. The state Uzbek speech recognition platform combines STT, TTS and diarization, analyses 100% of contact-centre calls and has announced automated calling for banks (gazeta.uz, 2025). Private local solutions build industry and banking analytics on top of their own and open engines.

Over 12–18 months Uzbekistan saw a wave of Uzbek-language STT solutions: state services with analytics of 100% of calls and private local solutions for industries and banks (gazeta.uz, 2025). Uzbek transcription has moved from experiment to working technology.

How does Zukko.AI transcribe calls in Uzbek, Russian and English?

Zukko.AI is a platform of AI agents for business, and its speech-to-text recognises and analyses calls in Uzbek, Russian and English. Selective manual listening covers only a small share of conversations, while automatic transcription processes every call. The platform detects the language automatically and switches right during the conversation.

What happens to every call:

  • Automatic language detection: the system does not need to be told in advance which language the customer speaks.
  • Switching during the conversation: Uzbek and Russian within one sentence are handled correctly.
  • Diarization: the text is split into agent and customer turns, so you see who said what.
  • Analysis on top of the text: keyword search, tone and script control in all three languages.

How is Zukko.AI different from Russian and global tools?

The main difference lies in the speech the recognition has been tested on and in where the data lives. Global engines support literary Uzbek, but a real call in Uzbekistan means a phone channel, a dialect and Russian words mid-sentence, while the recordings are processed abroad. Zukko closes these gaps.

  • Data in Uzbekistan: recordings and transcripts are stored inside the country, which matters for regulated industries and CIS banks.
  • Connects to any PBX: one webhook to your existing phone system, no hardware replacement.
  • Android recorder: for those without IP telephony, recording runs straight from the manager's phone.
  • Onboarding from 2 hours with data and access ready; up to 30 days for enterprise with on-prem.
Unlike global systems that support literary Uzbek but process data abroad, Zukko.AI recognises Uzbek speech with Russian insertions on a phone line, stores data in Uzbekistan, connects to any PBX and records calls through the Android recorder. Onboarding takes from 2 hours (Zukko.AI, 2026).

What comes next

Uzbek transcription is no longer a barrier. The technology has matured, accuracy on a clean recording has reached a working level, and the main gap with global tools is Uzbek phone speech with Russian insertions and data stored abroad. For businesses in Uzbekistan this is a window: Uzbek calls can now be analysed just like Russian ones, and ahead of competitors. Start with one step: connect call recording and see what your customers actually say. Zukko.AI recognises Uzbek, Russian and English, stores data in the country and connects to any phone system.

Frequently asked questions

How do I transcribe a call in Uzbek?

You need a call recording and a recognition engine that understands Uzbek. Connect your PBX to Zukko.AI with one webhook or install the Android recorder on the manager's phone: every recording automatically becomes text with timestamps and separate agent and customer turns. The transcript appears in the customer card, and keyword search, tone scoring and script control run on it straight away. Onboarding takes from 2 hours with access ready.

Does the system understand Uzbek dialects?

Yes, provided the engine is trained on local speech. The Tashkent, Fergana and Khorezm dialects differ in pronunciation and vocabulary. Open Uzbek speech corpora and training on real calls make it possible to recognise colloquial speech, not only the literary standard.

Are call transcripts personal data?

Yes. The voice of an identifiable person and the content of the conversation are personal data under Uzbekistan's Law ZRU-547. Breaking the rules for processing them leads to administrative liability. That is why storing data inside Uzbekistan with access control is the most reliable option.

What if Uzbek and Russian are mixed in a call?

That is the typical case, called code-switching. The system has to switch between languages within one conversation, not pick a language once. Zukko.AI detects the language automatically and processes mixed speech as a single text.

Do I need IP telephony to transcribe calls?

No. If you have a PBX, Zukko.AI connects to it with one webhook. If you have no phone system, recording runs through the Android recorder straight from the manager's phone. A small business does not need to buy equipment to begin.

How accurate is Uzbek transcription?

On a clean recording, the accuracy of the best local Uzbek engines is good enough for keyword search, tone scoring and script control. On real phone lines with noise and dialects it is lower but remains workable.

Where are recordings and transcripts stored?

In Zukko.AI call data is stored in Uzbekistan. For CIS banks and regulated industries an on-prem deployment is available, in which transcripts never leave the client's infrastructure.

How long does connection take?

Onboarding takes from 2 hours with data and access ready. An enterprise rollout with on-prem deployment takes up to 30 days, including integration and access setup.
